Limited Edition Plates
In the 1970’s the Bradford Exchange became very popular with plate collectors giving them an opportunity to become familiar with the new and old plate series by offering the Exchange Board and the Plate World Magazine. Limited Edition Plates are considered a collectible item due to production limitation. The plates are either produced in a set quantity number or in a firing day period. Many of the personally autographed sports plates are limited in quantity by events that happened such as Kareem’s plate limited to 1978, which is the year he retired. Gartlan is known for the authenticity of their autographed plates and figurines of Yogi Berra, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Darryl Strawberry, Magic Johnson, John Wooden and the Negro League.
Sandra Kuck uses children in her artwork with plate series of Sisters and Mothers. Greg Perillo’s exquisite plates of various Indian tribes and animals are colorful and beautifully show the Indian heritage as well as the wildlife they lived in. The selection of subjects gives a whole new meaning to Wall décor with children, dogs, cats, fairytales, Hollywood stars, sports, wildlife, Kinkade cottages, flowers, fashions and many more.
The Saturday Evening Post was so popular in American with the cover pictures by Rockwell. These pictures are on a number of plates in The Rockwell series portraying an important era in the history of America. Plates can be beautifully displayed on walls with the accompaniment of frames, plate racks, shadow boxes and brass hangers. If wall space is unavailable, stand the plates on a shelf with colorful plate stands to compliment a special doll or figurine.
